Review- Chelsea v Manchester United

Manchester United lost more ground on neighbours City in the Premier League title race as we suffered a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge. See how I rated the United players below.

Firstly, I want to give some credit to Jose Mourinho. He, surprisingly, didn’t park the bus and allowed the game to be open with lots of chances for both sides. We didn’t get the result we would’ve liked but it was an entertaining game nevertheless.

In the first half, we matched Chelsea and a draw was the fair result but we dropped in the second half as Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard gained influence. We deservedly went behind after some embarrassingly bad defending which led to Alvaro Morata having a free header inside our box. Mourinho did try and get something from the game with the introduction of Anthony Martial and Marouane Fellaini, but the latter looked nervous and frequently gave the ball away in dangerous areas.

We are now eight points behind Manchester City and I fear that the gap could widen when we face them next month.

Player Ratings

David De Gea 6

As usual, solid performance. Couldn’t do anything for their goal.

Eric Bailly 6

Struggled to cope with Hazard but was solid.

Chris Smalling 5

Wasn’t one of his best performances, left Morata wide open for his goal.

Phil Jones 5

Lucky that his own goal was ruled out.

Antonio Valencia 6

Not as influential going forward as he usually is.

Ashley Young 6

Couldn’t get forward as much as he would’ve liked as he was busy defending.

Ander Herrera 5

Another poor performance from the Spaniard. He gave away a number of needless fouls.

Nemanja Matic 6

Not his best game in a United shirt but he was solid.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan 4

Went missing, again! Misplaced too many passes and one of his awry passes led to their goal. What will it take for Mourinho to drop him?!

Romelu Lukaku 6

Was starved of service but did well when he got the ball.

Marcus Rashford 6

Same as Lukaku, nearly scored a free kick in the dying moments.

Substitutes

Anthony Martial 6

Didn’t influence the game when he came on.

Marouane Fellaini 6

Looked nervous on the ball around our area but was dangerous in the oppositions half. Had a good chance which was saved well.

Jesse Lingard –

Didn’t get time to really influence the game.

All in all it was a disappointing result but we now have to look to our next game and try and pick up as many points as possible. Our next game is at home to Newcastle United on 18th November, after the international break. Subscribe below so you don’t miss my preview for that game!
